Role Description

We are seeking a Multimodal Medical Data Engineer Intern to build end-to-end pipelines that transform raw medical documents (PDFs, scans, lab reports, prescriptions) into structured, machine-readable data.

You will combine OCR, computer vision, NLP and vision-language models (VLMs) to extract key entities and relations and align them with our medical knowledge graph, enabling downstream reasoning and decision support in fertility care.

Key Responsibilities

📄 Document intelligence & OCR

• 🔍 Design and implement OCR + layout analysis pipelines for fertility-related medical documents.
• 🖼️ Use vision-language models (VLMs) to understand document structure (tables, sections, forms, handwritten notes if any).

🧬 Clinical information extraction & normalization

• 🏷️ Extract clinical entities and relations (diagnoses, procedures, labs, medications, dosages, timelines).
• 🧠 Normalize extracted entities using biomedical ontologies and map them to the Tanit medical knowledge graph.

🔄 Pipelines, evaluation & collaboration

• 🛠️ Build reusable ETL pipelines (Python) from document → JSON → graph triplets (Neo4j).
• 📊 Define and run evaluation protocols (precision/recall on entities and relations, OCR quality).
• 🤝 Collaborate with the Knowledge Graph and Generative AI teams to feed extracted data into GraphRAG and clinical reasoning workflows.

Required Skills

• 🐍 Strong Python skills (pandas, PyTorch/TensorFlow, REST APIs).
• 👁️ Familiarity with OCR / Document AI (Tesseract, EasyOCR, Donut/TrOCR, LayoutLMv3, etc.).
